I thought I wasn’t in the market for a new foundation, until I watched a You Tuber saying how lovely this foundation was. I’ve never been a fan of the Clinique foundations to be honest, so I knew I’d want to get a sample first. What swung me even more towards wanting it was the huge doe foot applicator – I know that some people are struggling with this to do with hygiene but I must confess I’m stumped as to why. You put your foundation on clean skin no? And it’s your own skin, just like putting lip gloss on.
When I asked for a sample, there weren’t many colours in stock so I took home colour 02 and 06 thinking that 06 would be way too dark for me. I tried 02 and loved the consistency and feel etc, but it was a bit too light. It was self tanning night, so the following day I used colour 06 and actually it was a perfect match. Still, I wanted one I could use most days so visited Clinique again to find a colour in between 02 and 06. This is where it got tricky – I like a neutral or yellow based foundation and the colours in between were all very pinky so not for me.
I decided to try the colours again and actually 06 works on most days other than self tanning day, as it seems to adapt to my skin colour. Even better, I have the Custom Cover FX drops in a shade too light for me so I can use them for their exact intended purpose and lighten up my foundation in 06 if need be. So, I bought 06 which ironically is called Ivory (its sooooo not ivory).
Here are the two shade swatches:
Natural Light with Shade 02 Alabaster on the left and 06 Ivory on the right
With Flash – Shade 02 Alabaster on the left and 06 Ivory on the right
Here are the claims and description from the Clinique site:
A foundation-and-concealer in one for a natural, beyond perfected look that lasts all day. Lightweight, moisturizing makeup covers thoroughly without clogging pores. Skin breathes comfortably, colour stays true, even through sweat and humidity.Due to the rich pigment level that enhances this flawless coverage makeup, shades may appear deeper when first applied. Leave the foundation to settle just for a few minutes, this will allow the high pigment in the formula to adapt to your skin tone which is why you get such a flawless perfected finish.Suitable for ALL skin types
It’s definately a medium to full coverage foundation so I agree with the part about it being a foundation and concealer in one. I can’t say that I agree that it feels lightweight at all – the texture of the foundation is like a cream mixed with a liquid – not quite as thick as a cream but not a liquid – if I hold the sample pot upside down it doesn’t move. I usually like a liquid and avoid creams because I find they highlight my fines lines etc, but not so much with this.
With regard to the colour and shades appearing darker when first applied, again I was pleasantly surprised to find this claim to be true – the shade 06 as I discussed is at first look too dark for me, but somehow seems to adapt to the colour i need on the day.
I tested the sweat and humidity claim on a vigorous walk with puppy and it held up pretty darn well. Not perfect of course, but certainly presentable enough to not have to reapply if I intended to go anywhere later that day.
Finally to the “suits all skin types” assertion – I currently have very oily skin that gets dehydrated (I know, its a strange combo) and this foundation works – it doesn’t make me feel greasy and my skin doesn’t feel tight. So overall, I’m really enjoying this. Below are pictures on how it wears, although they were on different days…
This is it when first applied……
And this was after about 7 hours…
Have you tried it? What do you think?
